MANILA — A joint venture between DoubleDragon Properties Corp. and Newcoast South Beach Inc. has launched its 1,001-room hotel project in Boracay island, which is expected to become the biggest hotel in the Philippines in terms of room count.
DoubleDragon told the local bourse the Hotel 101 Resort-Boracay would sit on a two-hectare property inside the tourism estate of Megaworld’s subsidiary, Global-Estate Resorts, Inc.
“We envision Hotel 101 to become the largest and most recognized hotel chain in the Philippines, significantly contributing to the recurring income of DoubleDragon, and at the same time providing the market with an innovative, safe and secure investment platform,” said DoubleDragon Chairman Edgar “Injap” Sia II.
Sia believed the new eco-friendly greenergized hotel project in Boracay would boost the achievement of the company’s vision to be a major player in the hotel and resorts industry in the country.
“(It) will also significantly help generate economic benefits to the people of Boracay as well as contribute to pump-prime further the world-class reputation of the Island and the Philippines as a tourist destination,” he added.
The project will be the fourth development under Hotel 101 brand after similar groundbreaking undertakings in Manila, Fort Taguig and Davao City.
Hotel 101 is a hotel brand of DoubleDragon which aims to have a total of 5,000 hotel rooms in its portfolio by 2020.

The hotel-resort project will adopt sustainable best practices from design to implementation and to reduce and reuse energy, waste and water.
Specific areas of Hotel 101 Resort-Boracay will also be powered by solar panels and will be equipped with a rainwater harvesting system and is expected to be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certified development.
“Their eco-friendly hotel blends well with Boracay Newcoast’s sustainable development model. This will further enhance the island’s proposition for the domestic and global tourist market,” said Kevin Tan, executive director of Alliance Global and Senior Vice President of Megaworld. (PNA)
